SEPTEMBER BUSINESS MEETING MINUTES

MINUTES OF BUSINESS MEETING OF LAGOS CENTRAL LIONS CLUB, HELD ON 21ST SEPTEMBER, 2008 AT GODDIS GARDEN, OREGUN, IKEJA, LAGOS STATE.

The meeting was called to order at exactly 5:30 pm by the President Lion Taiwo Rabiu. The National Anthem was thereafter recited by all.

READING AND ADOPTION LAST MINUTES
The minutes of the last meeting was earlier circulated to members via electronic mails. The motion for its adoption was moved and seconded by Lion Tunde Ogunmuyiwa and Lion Olumide Oluyemi respectively.


PRESIDENT’S WELCOME ADDRESS
Lion Taiwo Rabiu welcomed members and apologised on behalf of the installation committee for not submitting the report as expected.

BOD REPORTS

1. The Investiture committee chairman Lion Biodun Kareem apologised for not coming to the BOD with the report.
2. Last year financial report was presented by the IPP. Lion Tunde Ogunmuyiwa and it was adopted.
3. Invitation and Request for goodwill message was received from our Leos and it was agreed that the sum of N10,000:00 be given to the Leos in order to assist them. Also members are expected to place goodwill messages for the Leos. Full page is N1,000:00.

4. That Lion Shola Sobowale should buy gift for Lion T.O.S Adewunmi’s baby with the sum of N2,500:00
5. The approval was given for the payment of international dues of $500.

INVESTITURE COMMITTEE REPORT
1. Lion T.O.S Adewumi said that it was agreed at the BOD committee that the report should be presented as a document at the Business Meeting.
2. Lion Taiwo Rabiu responded that she cannot present the report except the chairman.
3. Lion Tunde Ogunmuyiwa said that decisions taken at the BOD and Business meetings should be taken seriously and followed strictly.

NEW BUSINESS
1. The president Lion Taiwo Rabiu said the cheque will be signed and the dues paid
because time is running out. Also that Lion Ganiyu Sorinola money will be paid.
That the Gift for Lion T.O.S Adewunmi’s baby should be taken care of by Lion Sobowale.
The motion was moved and seconded by Lion T.O.S Adewunmi and Lion Tunde Ogunmuyiwa respectively that the sum of N135,500:00 should be drawn to settle Lion Sorionola, Lion Taiwo Rabiu, Lion T.O.S Adewunmi’s baby and the international dues.

PROJECTS
For the month of September, Traffic control is to be carried out at Isaac John/Adekule Fajuyi junction, Ikeja G.R.A by 11am after the Environmental Sanitation exercise on that day. Leos are also encouraged to take part in the activity in which Lion Tunde Ogunmuyiwa volunteered to inform the Leos.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
Lion Kabiawu was celebrated for the month of September.

TAIL TWISTING
Lion T.O.S Adewunmi was called upon to act as the tail-twister of the day. The sum of N1,200:00 was realised. Lion Bunmi Oladipo paid N10,000:00 as part of his dues.

AOB/CORRESPONDENCES
1. Ota Esteem Lions Club investiture is scheduled for September 21st, 2008 at Bezer Hall Sango-otta, Ogun State, they also requested for goodwill messages and adverts.
2. Ikeja Lions Club will be having her investiture on 5th October, 2008 at Etal Hotel, Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun Ikeja Lagos.
3. Lagos Central Leo Club installation holds 19th October 2008 at Akowonjo Lions Club House, Lagos.
4. Kenya Africa Forum registration closes on 30th September, 2008.

ADJOURMENT
Motion for the adjournment was moved and seconded by Lion T.O.S Adewunmi and Lion Olumide Oluyemi respectively at 6:45pm. The recitation of the National Pledge brought the meeting to an end.

READING AND ADOPTION OF LAST MINUTES
The minute was read by the Secretary, Lion Tunde Ojedokun, thereafter Lion Adesola Sobowale, complained about the minutes not being circulated and that the ones sent to the e-mail addresses was too late; that minutes of meetings should get to members at least 2 weeks preceding such a meeting. The Secretary apologised for not sending the minutes to members on time and that this will not repeat itself in the future.
Thereafter, the motion for adoption was moved and seconded by Lion Toyin Afuwape and Lion Olumide Oluyemi respectively.

PRESIDENT’S WELCOME ADDRESS
Lion Taiwo Rabiu welcomed all members and encouraged unity and oneness among the members that if there is anything anybody don’t understand, he/she should endeavour to ask and this is why she is seeking opinions before embarking on anything. She later gave out cards to members to support and raise funds for the District project.

1. That no goodwill be placed unless installation dues are paid, also that the President should communicate this to members via text messages.
2. Lion Abiodun Kareem reported that he has enough adverts and goodwill to be submitted while Lion Sola Sobowale said she has about 10 adverts with her.

INVESTITURE COMMITTEE REPORT

1. Members were urged to turn up for the investiture ceremony because LCLC is the only club having her Investiture on the 24th August, 2008.
2. The Chairman, Lion Abiodun Kareem said the committee will be having two more meetings slated for Tuesday and Thursday preceding the investiture for other things to be concluded at Bosede Talabi Guest House, Ojota (Saturday meeting is for 2pm)
3. The committee agreed on a brochure like that of the District Governor for the investiture and will cost the committee sum of N130,000:00, which Lion Tunde Ogunmuyiwa said is too much and that we should not compare our club with the District. Lion Taiwo Rabiu responded that the issue will be debated at the committee meeting on Tuesday.

REGION MEETING
Lion ‘Sola Sobowale was appointed as the Region 3 Secretary
Cards were issued out from the Region to support the D.G’s Roll Back Malaria project and the money realised will be shared in the ratio of 40% to the club, 40% to the Region and 20% to the individual who raised the funds.
That Lions are encouraged to attend investitures of other clubs in the region.
Region excursion to Togo will come up by September (tentatively) and members should prepare at least N50, 000:00 for the programme.
That at any investiture, 3 Region members will attend with the Region Chairman for free.

D.G’S INVESTITURE
Five lions from LCLC attended the ceremony and it was colourful.

FELLOWSHIP SONG/BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
Cards were presented to the celebrants while Lion Abiodun Kareem sponsored a fellowship song titled ‘Water runs my Eye’.

TAIL TWISTING
Lion Abiodun Kareem was called upon to act as the tail-twister of the day. The sum of N3800:00 was realised.

RECOGNITION/APPRECIATION
Gifts were given to Lion Toyin Afuwape and Lion Sola Sobowale respectively for coming earlier.

AOB/CORRESPONDENCES

1. Agege Lions Club investiture is for August 31st, 2008 at Bezer Hall Sango-Otta, Ogun State, they also requested for goodwill message.
2. Eko Lions Club will be having her investiture also on 31st August, 2008 at Adenusi Hall, Ikeja Club, Ikeja, Lagos.
3. Lagos Oke-Afa Lions Club installation is 14th September 2008 at Blue Nest Hotel Isolo, Lagos.
4. A bye Law was given to Intending Lion ‘Leye Agiri.

PRESIDENT'S WELCOME ADDRESS

Lion Taiwo Rabiu welcomed members to the new lionistic year and she gave out a booklet which contains history of lions club, membership details, proposed projects for the lionistic year, important dates, international and district programmes for the year.

She also gave the theme for this lionistic year as "service for greater height". This lionistic year will be in line with the district theme which centres on Roll Back Malaria programme and she urged members to be prepared for the task ahead.

Members were also informed that the minutes for the lionistic year will sent to individual's e-mail addresses and if otherwise, such lion will pay sum of N100:00 for the hard copy. Members are also advised to dress formally at all times and the lapel pin should be worn regularly.

Lastly, the payment of dues will be taken seriously and members should endeavour to come to the meeting with copies of the booklet. More details of the programme can be found in the booklet.

HANDING OVER

Lion Tunde Ogunmuyiwa the Immediate Past president apologised for not coming to the meeting with the gong and gavel, he however handed over the insignia of office to the President Lion Taiwo Rabiu. He also promised that the formal handing over will take place on installation day.

42 copies of the club bye laws

6 forms for intending lions

He informed the house that the Current Account balance is N34, 826.51k

INTRODUCTION

Members introduced themselves, while Lion Taiwo Rabiu introduced Mrs Ojo as the official photographer for this lionistic year. Also Intending Lion Blessing Umebali introduced herself and that she is still searching for the right club to join.

BOD REPORT

1. It was agreed that the initial N15,000:00 dues should be changed to

N13,000:00 and that the other N2000:00 is for National Convention.

2. Peace poster with the theme "peace start from me" will take place in any selected school and the fee is N3000:00.

3. That the venue of the meeting has increased from N2000:00 to N4000:00 and the BOD members are mandated to meet with the management for further rebate.

4. Members are to render support to the successful take off the investiture

INVESTITURE COMMITTEE REPORT

1. The agreement was reached that Lions are to pay N3000:00 which covers contribution and guarantees self and spouse while other lions/guest will pay gate fee of N1500:00,

2. The Chairman Lion Abiodun Kareem, said adverts from companies are to be collected soon.

3. Lion Toyin Afuwape, added that the club also need products, adverts, while Lion Tunde Ogunmuyiwa appealled to members to bring in goodwill messages and adverts.

FELLOWSHIP SONG

Lion Ganiu Sorinola sponsored a fellowship song titled 'In lionism'.

INDUCTION

Lion Bunmi Oladipo was formally inducted after attending three meetings and fulfilling other requirements.

TAIL TWISTING

Lion Toyin Afuwape was called upon to act as the tail-twister of the day. The sum of N3200:00 was realised.

AOB/CORRESPONDENCES

1. Agege Leo Club to host the Region by 3pm on ……………………………..

2. Lion Tunde Ogunmuyiwa said the letter for change of signatories will be submitted to the bank.

3. Lion Toyin Afuwape requested for the release of Subvention for the investiture committee.

4. We were reminded of the District Governor investiture which will hold on Saturday, August 9, 2008 at the Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos. Gate fee is N3, 000:00 per person.

5. Lion 'Wunmi Akinyemi asked question on the type of uniform for the investiture, and that the club is not buying any uniform but should made with combination of gold and purple, while native was agreed upon for the programme.

6. Publicity: Lion Abiodun Kareem reminds the members on publicity and he was referred to the investiture committee for more discussion.
